Charity Radio Advert
Our task was to create a radio advert for a charity or a public service campaign. I decided to create a radio advert for a charity called Tiger Trust that promotes awareness of tigers becoming extinct as well as trying to save them from any kind of issues they may face. After the charity was decided I had to create a treatment; this was kind of like a plan for information that could/should be included into my advert. This entailed my writing about the client, type of client, placement, purpose, usp (unique selling point), persuasive techniques, product name, name of advert and style. The client and type of client simply meant who my advert was about (Tiger Trust) and what it is (charity). The placement and purpose is where the advert would be played and what it is trying to do; my purpose for the placement was because the advert had to be aimed at 16-19 year olds therefore the ad had be aired onto radio stations that young people listen to. The usp of my advert was taken off the charity's website as it clearly stated what they did and why it is better than the rest (largest conservation programme). The persuasive techniques I wanted to include were emotional language, statistics and audience fears because all of these would evoke guilt from the listener and therefore they may feel persuaded to support the charity. Lastly the style of the advert had to be fitting for its purpose - I chose serious, factual and repetition because as the ad would make you feel guilty then if it wasn't serious then people would think it was unimportant and therefore the message wouldn't have been put across.
The next step now that the treatment had been completed was to write the script. This was a crucial part because radio adverts rely mainly on what can be heard, therefore if the script wasn't good then the advert wouldn't be good. I made sure I used things that I had written in my treatment such as keeping a serious style, using statistics and so on. The ad had to be around 30 seconds minimum so the script didn't have to be too long, also if it was too long then the audience would loose interest and it would drag on. Once the script was written I recorded it using the audio editing software 'Reaper 64'. Then using the same programme I edited the advert, adding sound effects (tiger roar, gun shot) where I said I would in the script and changing anything I felt would be appropriate (for example adding a gun shot effect). Also, I added slow, instrumental music in the background to help make it sound sad so that it would really evoke guilt in the audience. Once I was happy with the finished product I rendered the advert and uploaded it to sound cloud.
